Dr. Payman Simoni is a double board certified facial plastic surgeon. Certified in both Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Otolaryngology, Head and Neck surgery
After 20 years of education, including medical school, a physician will apply
for residency.
A “resident” is a licensed physician who is pursuing further post-graduate
training after receiving a Doctorate degree from medical school. The residency
begins with one or two years of general surgical training followed by specialty
training in Otolaryngology (head and neck surgery), which lasts 4-6 years. After
the completion of that residency the surgeon takes a two day certification
examination. If he/she passes the surgeon becomes board certified in
Otolaryngology.
To then become Board Certified in Facial
Plastic and Reconstructive surgery the surgeon must also compete for one of
the coveted facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowships. This is a
full year program ending with another two day exam. The successful completion of
the exam plus positive peer reviews of surgeries performed by the applicant
results in the double board certification.
